A chiropractor is a health professional who treats musculoskeletal and nervous system disorders by manipulating the spine and joints. These manual adjustments to the spine and joints are used to relieve conditions such as back pain, neck pain, joint pain, and sciatica. According to The Good Body, chiropractors treat around 35 million Americans each year for such conditions.
While each chiropractor is different, a typical day may include the following:
The working hours of a
chiropractor may differ but a typical day could begin with the chiropractor clocking in at 8:00 AM or 9:00 AM. They will check messages and review the list of patients expected. The chiropractor may complete any pending paperwork or attend staff meetings. If there is a new patient, the chiropractor goes through the patient's history, including their lifestyle and the reasons they have come to the clinic. They may need additional medical information such as x-rays and MRIs. After obtaining all the information, they will conduct an initial exam and discuss the findings with the patient. A treatment plan will be made, and the patient will be advised how often to come.
With an existing patient, the chiropractor will review the notes and decide which therapy the patient needs. The patient may need heat therapy or massage therapy. The chiropractor will break for lunch, though this depends on the volume of patients. Working patients may want a lunchtime appointment, so chiropractors will often accommodate those as well.
There will be more patients to see, and these could be new or existing ones. If a chiropractor has their own practice, there will also be staff and office matters to attend to. They may also attend training to further their knowledge, as well as train interns and staff.
After finishing with patients, chiropractors may take the time to make additional notes at the end of the day or at the end of the session. The chiropractor may finalize pending paperwork and respond to emails as well.
Chiropractors have fulfilling careers and strive to treat patients without the need for medicine or surgery. If you are looking for more information or are in need of services, contact Shifting Tides Chiropractic today. We would be happy to help!
